Ernest Harmon is the best soccer trainer I have ever had the pleasure to work with. My relationship with Ernest goes back to when my daughter turned 12 and we brought her to play for Ernest’s newly-forming premier league team. To that point, I had been a coach of my daughter’s WYSL division one team and had also tried 3 different professional trainers over a 4 year period. Two of these former trainers in particular were very well-known and highly regarding trainers in Westchester county; however, the difference in style with Ernest was immediately noticeable. In addition to having Ernest coach my daughter, I also joined Ernest on the sideline as his assistant coach, so my perspective is uniquely impacted as both a dad and a coach.

Ernest Harmon is a unique molder of young soccer talent. Never before, and never since have I had the pleasure to work with someone so uniquely gifted. There are many talented trainers, and many coaches who care about the children. However, Ernest combines a brilliant knowledge of the game with an empathetic ability to convey this knowledge to children in a way they can truly understand and absorb. What makes him so successful is how much he genuinely cares about the kids. Kids can tell when a coach/trainer is genuine, and every single kid who played on our team was devoted not only to what Ernest taught but to Ernest himself as a person. This mutual dedication by the athletes leads to far greater success, and this success can be measured in many ways.

Athletes coached by Ernest tend to genuinely enjoy playing soccer – not for their parents but for themselves. As a result, over the 6 years Ernest and I coached together, departures were extremely rare. In fact, less than 10 girls left our team which is an astounding number relative to other local premier soccer programs who tend to turn over nearly that many from their roster every year! Many of the girls from this team continue to play soccer in college. Not because their parents want or need them to, but because they have such a profound love for the game. Most of these girls continue to maintain correspondence with Ernest, valuing not only his soccer advice but his friendship as well.

Secondly, Ernest’s players advance in their skills at an accelerated pace. Because he elicits so much trust from his players, they learn very quickly and retain what they learn. The results can clearly be seen on the field.

If you are fortunate enough to be considering Ernest Harmon for your child or your soccer program you are on the right track. In addition to being a brilliant trainer and game coach, Ernest molds the whole child. His focus goes well beyond soccer skills and tactics and every child whom he coaches is the beneficiary. Speaking from personal experience, Ernest was able to rebuild my daughter’s confidence after her prior coach had fully decimated it. Not only was he able to get her loving the game again, she improved to the point where she ultimately was selected to be all-state first team only two years later. And my story is not limited to my daughter alone. Over the six years I coached alongside Ernest, I watched as he impacted so many other girls similarly. In this era of increasing fees spent on recreational sports for children, and the escalated expectations that come with it from parents wanting to see immediate competitive results, Ernest stands out as an exception. He resists the win-now pressure and every girl he trains improves significantly. And, along the way, these girls learn to love playing the game of soccer and develop into impressive, well-rounded, confident young adults.
